During the reign of Elizabeth I, Byrd Phillips and Tomkins composed for illegal gatherings. All avoided the guillotine and continued to write tantalisingly beautiful music. To mark the 450th birthday of Thomas Tomkins, nicknamed “the last Elizabethan”, eight singers of the ACC perform a program from the Golden Age of English music.
