Australian Youth Classical Competition

Welcoming solo instrumentalists to Australia's premier music competition for young people,
now in it's 31st year!

Applications for the 2022 Competition will open on 10 January 2022 and the

Trustee hopes to run normally, with an audience, while adhering to any COVID-19

restrictions that may be in place at the time.​

REGIONAL   Sunday 5 June

for residents of the City of Greater Geelong and environs, 18 years or younger.

Applications close on Sunday 8 May 2022 at 9pm. Application form, photo, biography and non-refundable entry fee must be supplied by the closing date and time. Applications after this date and time will not be accepted except by prior arrangement with Competition coordinator. Online Application available from our website at aycmc.org.au

Submit a list of performance pieces and program notes in performance order - submitted by email no later than Friday 27 May 2022 9pm

NATIONAL   Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 July

for residents of Australia 17 to 25 years of age - NOTE ENTRY AGE LOWERED

KEY DATES Applications Close – Friday 3 June 2022 at 9pm Notification of Finalist Selection – Sunday 19 June 2022 Acceptance of place - Sunday 26 June 2022 by 9pm Competition repertoire due by - Sunday 3 July 2022 by 9pm

Regional applicants will need to perform a 6 to 10 minute live audition - piece or pieces of their own choice - and if selected as a finalist, perform before an adjudicator and audience, 6 to 10 minute program. The winner will be invited to perform at one of the National Final days. Remember, winning is a bonus, competing is the real value.​

National applicants submit a video performance not exceeding 30 minutes containing 4 pieces from each of the Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Modern periods. 

If selected as a finalist, prepare 2 programs not exceeding 15 minutes each. The first must be

a piece or pieces from the Baroque and/or Classical era, the second from Romantic and/or Modern. The winner will be invited to perform with the Geelong Symphony Orchestra. Remember, our adjudicators will expect you are well on the way to mastering your instrument, so your finals performance will be judged not only technique but also on presentation and communication. We know you can play well, show us how good you really are!
